This season’s boys’ wrestling team, which consists of a majority of underclassmen, is continuing to work towards their personal goals as the season progresses.

Junior wrestler Aaron Cummings said that the team and himself are doing fine so far this season, with room to improve.

“The team is doing very well for how young the team is, we lost a lot of seniors from last year's class and the new wrestlers have stepped up,” Cummings said.

The team agreed on one shared team goal at the beginning of the season being that they wanted to improve as a team. The athletes also each made their own personal goals for the season.

Cummings’ personal goals have stayed the same during the season, as well as the ones he has for the team. Although they are still working towards their goal, Cummings is already proud of how far they’ve come.

“I am proud of how the team has come along from the beginning of the season to now, some of the wrestlers did not even know what wrestling was,” Cummings said.

Coach Corey McCauley said the team is getting closer to achieving their team goal everyday, but some wrestlers have already achieved their personal goals.

“A lot of them didn’t know what the goal would even be for wrestling because again we’re very young so the goals we kind of set at the end were, some of them were to win their first match and some of them were to get out of sectionals and get to state it depends on their level they were at,” McCauley said.

Overall, McCauley is proud of how well the athletes are doing this season.

“I’m just proud of the kids,” McCauley said. “The kids have performed very well. I’m proud of the fact that most of them stuck the season out and are looking forward to next year now and doing a little bit, since we have a wrestling room, we can do a little bit more wrestling in the off season.”
