Dreams of Conference Motivates Team

The winter season for the girls’ basketball team is looking up for the team with conference sectionals coming up on Feb. 18 ; due to recent wins against Nicolet and West Bend West and the team’s dedication to achieve their goals, the team is keeping up their energy in hopes of being conference champs.

Following up from the team’s win against Nicolet on Jan. 30, the season has been filled with 15 victories, dominating in the Northshore conference rank as the team holds a count of “nine in five in conference” according to head coach Vinny Daniels.

With the way the season is shaping up there is hope to go all the way and win conference for senior Maci Meyer.

“Making it past regionals then sectionals and then on to the final [four] has been a dream of mine ever since I have been little,” Meyer said. “Winning conference however hasn’t been done at Hartford for a long time and would mean the world to my team and [me].”

Despite the wait until conference, the team has been building each other up through continuous improvement on their skills and becoming closer as a team. Being able to work better together allows a better understanding of each member’s strengths for plays according to junior Kailyn Knudson.

“We are really starting to understand where each other are at and how we play best together,” Knudson said. “Our mindset is more goal oriented and we are more focused on what is in front of us.”

By being able to bond on the team, nearing the end of the season can become bittersweet as there runs down the amount of time the team has together on the court. However, the drive to finish out strong and make it to the end together sets them apart from the rest.

“We have to enjoy every minute we have together because they’re only [going to] be team mates for so long and I think the kids did a really nice job of remembering that and we just need to keep remembering that,” Daniels said. “I think we can beat people by just wanting it more than them at this point in the year.”
