The Mini Bird House, the official HUHS apparel shop, is now being advertised in the high school’s daily email announcements after eliminating its space in Ozzy’s Cafe and moving the athletic offices.

The Bird House mainly consists of drinkware, multiple types of hats as well as other Oriole items. Many across the school believe that the Mini Bird House is a new edition to the front offices at HUHS, however, it is not a new edition to the school.

Before the recent renovations at HUHS, there were two Bird House locations found in the school. For the past five years one was in the athletic offices and the other was in Ozzy’s Cafe.

Ozzy’s Cafe was a small student run cafe with different snacks and drinks available for purchase while the Bird House sold apparel. The Bird House was included in the cafe to encourage students to purchase more HUHS apparel.

Since the renovations, however, Ozzy’s Cafe no longer exists and the athletic offices were moved. The Bird House is still found in the athletic offices near the front lobby.

With the number of Bird House locations in the school down to only one, HUHS needed to get more people to go into the athletic office and buy. There are now Bird House advertisements in the HUHS daily email announcements.

We do that every year, especially at this time of year,” Helms said. “Last year we even advertised a coupon for the holidays.”

Even though the ads are not new, HUHS students are noticing this years’ more than the ads from previous years. The advertisement has been getting a lot of attention since more and more students notice it every day.

It is, however, not exactly getting the attention like the department had hoped.

Senior Andrew Long is one of the few students who are not fond of the Bird House advertisement.

“Seeing the Bird House ads, actually makes me want to go less,” Long said. “I just do not like it.”

Long was unsure as to why he disliked the advertisement so much, but he just claimed to have a gut feeling.

Although some students do not care for the ad, others have bought from the Mini Bird House. Most of its customers come in around homecoming when students rep as much oriole gear as possible.

Some students, however, still buy from it throughout the rest of the school year. Senior Joshua Melsheimer wants to buy a hat from the Bird House for his tennis season in the spring.

“I have been needing a hat for tennis,” Melsheimer said. “The Bird House is probably my best bet to get a decent one.”
