The upcoming girls’ basketball season has exemplified reconstruction to the team and its morals; with the rise of a new coach, the team is striding into the season with better structure and leadership.
With practices starting within the past week, the team has had only a few short moments to adjust to their new coach before getting into game mode. New head coach Vinny Daniels is looking forward to the upcoming season and has worked hard to ensure that the team is prepared.
“I think we have the ability to build this program into one that is highly regarded in the area and some rebranding needs to take place to make this happen,” Daniels said. “Our leaders within the program have been great in starting this process!”
Returning players have had to adjust to the new routines Daniels has introduced. For members, such as senior Riley Resheske, bringing these new methods will kick the team into high gear.
“He is bringing a faster and more aggressive style of play,” Resheske said. “I think this is exactly what we need to finish top three in the conference.”
Part of this new routine for the team Daniels is bringing in, is a new structure to the entire sport known as the five pillars of the program.
“The pillars behind the program are listed in a positive manner because of the culture we want to create,” Daniels said. “Our goal is for people to be the best version of themselves as it relates to the program.”
This new energy can be uplifting to the team, especially with COVID-19 continuing to be a threat to the world. With the change in the school year and athletics it can be difficult to find the support, but the team reminds themselves that they are strong and have each other by their side.
Junior Brooke Lazaris said, “If you want to be a leader you have to stand out and show everyone that you can do it [and] everyone’s there for you cheering by your side.”
Given the found respect and support of the coach and the team as a whole, the team has become a welcoming and comfortable space for the team to connect.
Team manager Jessa Bea said, “I have always loved the [school’s] basketball program [,the] coaching staff is always amazing and the girls are as [well;] getting to work with them again is going to be an escape from the busy world around us and being [a part] of a team again.”
