Five times a year the student council holds a blood drive with the American Blood Cross. This year a scholarship is offered to students that donate benefiting their future.

By having a scholarship this year regarding the blood drive will encourage students to participate in the drive by donating blood. Student council member Katarina Aranguiz, who is the chair of the blood drive this year said, “There is a $500 scholarship at each drive, and 2020-2021 graduates from HUHS are eligible, “Aranguiz said.”Giving blood is a small way for anyone to make a huge difference in someone else’s life”.

The winner of the blood drive scholarship was given to senior Irene Wilson. “I’m aware of how much good my donation could do, especially with the stress many health care workers are under now, I was also curious if I had the Covid antibodies (which if I do, could also really help someone out!),” said Wilson.

With the scholarship, Wilson says “I will be going to college, so any bit of money helps”

The student council will be hosting another blood drive on Jan. 18 that will offer another scholarship to the blood donors. From just one blood donation it could save up to three lives according to cedars-sinai website.
