Sports Struggle Without Fans

Across the nation sports teams from professional to high school have been missing the usual crowds causing some to lose their competitive edge and lighting a spark in others.

After the NBA season resumed on July 30, it was quite noticeable that some teams like the Milwaukee Bucks were lacking a spark. Before the season was postponed the Bucks were dominating in the league thanks to the extra push from the fans.

Many fans are worried about this coming NBA season as it is unsure whether or not fans will be admitted into the Fiserv Forum. Fans want to be at the games to help motivate their team to compete stronger.

It is hopeful that the Bucks have gotten used to playing without fans because lacking them caused the Bucks motivation to dwindle.

While the Bucks strength decreased with the lack of fans, the Miami Heat experienced a dramatic improvement. Many fans believed that the Heat’s increased level of play was solely because they wanted it more.

It definitely, however, could have also been the lack of a crowd motivating the team to compete. These two occurrences did not just include NBA teams, but spread to other levels of sports such as high school.

High school athletes had to get used to the lack of fans extremely quickly as well. As a high school athlete, it was hard to play at first without fans there to watch.

It did not take long to get used to playing without fans. That was due to the fact that there never really was a large amount of fans at the matches anyway.

There were moments, however, that made it more sad to play without fans than difficult. For instance, senior night for boys volleyball during Homecoming week.

A lot of my friends got tickets to the game energized the usually quiet crowd. Although I did not get to play due to injury, it still made me miss the energy that high school fans would usually bring.

It makes me wish that we could have at least had cardboard cutouts of people who could not attend the games. The girls volleyball team at HUHS had cardboard fans at their senior night and professional sports such as the MLB had some stadiums filled with cardboard fans.

HUHS could create cardboard cutout fans as a fundraiser for their sports. It could be an easy fundraiser with fans donating a given amount of money and a picture that they would like to have as a cutout.

A lot of people would do it and it would probably make the games more enjoyable for the players and their family members who are able to attend.
