It does not take a movie connoisseur to be intrigued by Tenet, a film filled with action, mystery, excitement, and confusion; the film is much more than a simple thriller that keeps eyes pinned to the screen.

The mastermind behind the film is director Christopher Nolan. Nolan has produced multiple mind turning films such as Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and now Tenet.

Tenet takes place in an alternate reality that is nearly impossible to dissect. The film is surrounded by the theory of inversion which allows objects and humans to travel backwards in time in an attempt to change what has already happened. In simpler terms, the world of the future is in war with the world of the present.

There are issues that occur when alternate time realities collide. In various scenes of the film, characters are in battle with themselves from another time. This becomes confusing when attempting to understand which character is from what time reality.

The film is not filled with household names, nonetheless, the cast does a commendable job of portraying mystery throughout the film. The protagonist, however, John David Washington, is son of legendary actor Denzel Washington.

Washington’s supporting cast members include Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki who positively compliment Washington’s lead throughout the film. Pattinson does an impressive job of being a humble, knowledgeable, and experienced character.

Pattison’s character is more familiar with inversion and how it truly works. Debicki plays the wife of the antagonist, played by Kenneth Branagh. Her character is responsible for manipulating the antagonist.

Tenet is not a film where a bathroom break is allowed. Blink, and you might miss an explanation of another event later in the movie. For those that enjoy movies with an unclear plot that has to be discovered, Tenet is the one to watch.

Due to the global pandemic Tenet had to wait to release the film in theaters. Originally set for July 17, 2020, the release date was pushed back nearly two months to Sept. 3, 2020. This begs the question of if it is worth going to a theater to see, amidst the health concerns.

Tenet is confusing and after seeing the film it will take time to really process what happened. It is ultra exciting and fun to interact with after the film is over, however, if the opportunity to rewind and rewatch certain parts of the film was an option it’d be hard to pass up. Waiting for Tenet to release on demand is not only the safest decision, but will make watching the film more enjoyable.

The atmosphere of a movie theater has disappeared since the pandemic and doesn’t add much excitement to the film. On the other hand, if going to a theater is something that you’re comfortable with, seeing Tenet is a great choice; it will not disappoint.

Do not feel angry or sad when the plot doesn’t make sense after watching, because as the pieces start to come together a sensation of shock and even more curiosity will take over.
